Private care registries put the care of you and your loved ones in your control. You make the decisions about care and rely on the registry to refer you to a caregiver. The registry can provide you with information, advice, counsel, and a list of people who have the qualifications to meet your needs and requirements, but you make the decisions. Essentially, the registry helps clients and caregivers find one another so they can decide on who is best matched to whom. Registries are apt to be helpful at any time, but they can be especially helpful when time is of the essence. A registry can help find a reliable caregiver on short notice. And rather than leaving you to your own devices to determine who is qualified and who is not (and who is and is not suited to be with your loved ones), the registry typically undertakes background checks and checks the references of caregivers before they are referred to you. A PCA member is a caregiver registry who subscribes to the PCA Code of Ethics, so you can feel more secure in knowing that a PCA member registry is aware of and agrees to live by a set of ethical standards.
